The 2016-2017 Artist Series will kick off on September 30th with a spectacular program by faculty member Pablo Mayor and his Folklore Urbano Quintet! The evening features repertoire from Pablo‘s latest “El Barrio Project,” created for his renowned Colombian jazz/dance band Folklore Urbano. The concert weaves a theatrical narrative through the heart of El Barrio (Spanish Harlem), known as the birthplace of salsa.
Produced in collaboration with local songwriters, with theatrical direction by German Jaramillo of ID Studio Theater, the performance features Folklore Urbano’s core rhythm section, with Franco Pinna on drums, Dave Hertzberg playing bass, and Pablo on piano. Special guests from NYC’s salsa scene include veteran Danny González on congas (Orquesta Broadway), vocalist David Frankel (Ave. B Salsa Band), and multi-instrumentalist/vocalist Venezuelan Eddy Venegas (Mark Anthony sideman, Orquesta Broadway, and Sweet Plaintain string quartet), on trombone, violin, and vocals.
This concert is free and open to the public, and a meet-the-artist reception will follow the performance! Please RSVP to firstname.lastname@example.org
