Why TBMS? The Legacy and the Mission of TBMS – that’s what hooked me 8 years ago. Joining the board of an institution that has been providing music education in NYC for almost 94 years was, and still is today, an honor and a very special privilege. The community we’ve built and the spirit of that community is unique and infectious, and everyone agrees that music education has lifelong value. That kind of energy makes being a board member that much more rewarding.
Why is music important? I grew up with music all around me – in the car, in the house, humming a tune. I played musical instruments from 8-18, and then used my voice to make music with gospel choirs, chamber groups, and even at Carnegie Hall with the NY Oratorio Society. My kids LOVE music – they each play multiple instruments and never stop singing and dancing. So, why is music important to me? It IS me and part of my everyday world.
