Sarah Evans, Student Services Manager

Describe what you do in your current position: As the Student Services Manager, I work with the faculty, students, and parents on registration, programming, and scheduling. I also get to help with some cool events, like our monthly Performance Hour for Adults and the Young Artist’s Recital.

How long have you worked for Turtle Bay? How long in your current position? I started at Turtle Bay in this position in February 2016.

Describe other work experience or education: Before coming to Turtle Bay, I was an assistant editor of children’s books at Scholastic. I studied English with a creative writing concentration at Yale University, where I sang in the Yale Glee Club.

What is your favorite thing about Turtle Bay Music School? I love everyone’s enthusiasm for music!

What is your favorite Turtle Bay memory and/or event? I recently attended a Voice Department Workshop and got to hear five talented singers perform. It was such a treat to hear them sing and to hear one of our faculty members give them interesting, thoughtful feedback on their work.

Do you play any instruments? Describe any musical background you may want to share! I’ve sung in choirs almost my whole life, and I used to play clarinet. Confession: I was not always the best at practicing. I used to practice for my voice lessons in the car on the way there — not as easy to do for my clarinet lessons!

What is your favorite song and/or piece of music? It changes all the time! I’m a big musical theater fan.

Who is your favorite composer/songwriter? I don’t think I can pick one!

Where are you from? Rochester, NY.

Favorite color? Blue.

Favorite food? Chocolate.

Pets? Kids? Family members? My parents have an adorable beagle named Zoe who I love to visit. Right now I’m very proud that I’ve managed to grow a basil plant and keep it alive, so it’s probably good that’s the only living thing I have to take care of!

Any other fun facts you’d like to include! My apartment has so many books in it that it looks a little like a library!
